A Gradual Incline
This fortnight’s entry is going to be short and sweet, just like me haha!
With my UK holiday fast approaching and my sinuses deciding to take revenge on me for a week, I haven’t had chance to do much writing except to organise the latest updates for my English society. But, as the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder, and I am already looking forward to my next writing venture, using up the inspiration that seems to have grown whilst I was nursing myself through blankets and ibuprofen. Don’t worry, I made sure to self-isolate just in case, but I always get attacked by this flare-up around this time of year so I am sure that I am fine.
Anyway, the first exciting piece of news to share with you is that I am slowly but surely adding more pieces to my Writing Portfolio. It is taking a while to work out just exactly what I can share with you at this time and also to find the right words to convey my latest sparks of inspiration, but I am gradually getting there. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to officially set up the freelance side to my site, but at least that is something for you to look forward to!
The next, and probably most exciting, news is that I am officially an ambassador for a charity! Now, I am not going to drone on and on pushing for my readers to donate all their wealth, but I just thought that I would take the opportunity to spread awareness of the charity itself and why I decided to be involved.
The Literate Earth Project is an American charity that is slowly building a name for itself in the UK, employing University Charity Ambassadors to help raise awareness of their work. The charity aims to provide books, schools and educational resources to the countries that need it most, including opening libraries and training teachers within schools in Uganda. I was shocked to learn that 775 million people are illiterate globally, so, as a budding author and avid reader, I decided to help do something about it by helping to raise money so that children across the globe can experience the wonders of literature that we can easily access. It’s a great cause and I can’t wait to help out where I can. Feel free to follow their linked social media and website to find out more, or if you’re interested in becoming an ambassador too!
This is where I leave this little taster of my writing life. Expect to see my Instagram and blog full of scenic imagery with superimposed poetry and motivational quotes very soon. I personally find autumn to be my favourite time of the year, a time of hot chocolates and a great book beside the fireplace as well as gorgeous orange tones in the countryside, each as inspiring as the other. Hopefully they shall inspire that creative spark within you or at least provide a spout of escapism for you.
I hope you are all staying safe, whether you’re back at university, school or have been carrying on with work. Whatever life throws your way, always remember, as my favourite quote at the minute states, to look at each step and not the whole staircase. Think that and you can get through anything.
Until next time!
Emily
